Student artwork from seminar on Chinese characters now on display

An exhibit at the UC Davis International Center displays artwork from the First-Year Seminar, “Demystifying and Unlocking the Beauty of Chinese Characters.”

Yutian Tan, a continuing lecturer in East Asian Languages and Cultures, teaches the course exploring Chinese culture and philosophy through Chinese characters and calligraphy. Students created their own works of art using the tools and techniques Tan introduced in class. 

The seminar returns fall 2026 and is currently open for enrollment. The exhibit is on display through September in the center's lobby.
