Empowering students for purposeful lives and meaningful careers
The Life and Career First-Year Seminars are designed to help students build a strong foundation for personal and professional success. These seminars guide students through the process of considering what they want out of life. They will have the opportunity to reflect, explore curiosities and will be encouraged to explore their values, strengths and aspirations while developing essential life and career skills.
What to Expect
Seminar proposals in this category of seminars prepare students to:
- Engage in career exploration to discover resources at the university that are aligned with their interests and goals.
- Learn professional development strategies, including networking and communication skills.
- Build life skills such as time management, financial literacy and decision-making.
- Participate in life design activities that promote self-reflection and intentional planning.
- Strengthen their capacity for leadership and student success through collaborative projects and mentorship.
- Gain tools to navigate college and beyond with confidence and purpose.
Whether students are still deciding on a major or already envision their future, these seminars offer a supportive space to grow, reflect and take action.
Faculty may also consider industry visits, guest speakers, experiential learning, projects and presentations.
